Protect your Assets
As revealed in the 2014 Cost of Data Breach Study: Global Analysis, sponsored by IBM, the average cost to a company was $3.5 million in US dollars and 15 percent more than what it cost last year. In Recent years, we have heard some spectacular stories of now infamous data breaches:
- Chinese hackers took over NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, Inspector General reveals (reported March 01, 2012 @foxnews.com)
- Citigroup Inc. plans to send replacement credit cards to about 100,000 North American customers after its systems were breached by a hacking attack affecting about 200,000 accounts.” (reported June 9, 2011, Wall Street Journal–WSJ.COM)
- Sony executives bowed in apology Sunday as they explained how hackers took personal data of 77 million accounts on the online PlayStation service, including 10 million credit card accounts that may have been compromised.” (May 1, 2011, foxnews.com)
Some Network Managers groan at the thought of upgrading to a better firewall. The smart ones are looking for the best Firewall they can find. Even though these articles are two to three years old, even the worst skeptic could not deny the mortifying and historic impact of just these three. Whether your firewall is protecting Jet propulsion secrets, Play stations, or your credit cards, don’t you want to know who and what travels through it? Can you name a firewall with better visibility into real time and historic network traffic that Palo Alto Networks provides? Me neither. How much will a data breach cost your company? Will you enjoy “bowing” in apology to your customers, and coworkers? I would like to help prevent this type of crime at my company, and I want the best technology available to make that happen.
